We have an exciting NHS Band 3 healthcare assistant opportunity for a highly motivated healthcare assistant to work across our TB and Respiratory Services within the community.

The health care assistant role will provide support to patients under the care of qualified clinicians supporting them to live well in the community and achieve good health outcomes. You will be expected to support the current staff in post with TB screening, pulmonary rehab and the delivery of care in both community and clinic settings.

Development through the Nursing associate pathway will be considered for the right candidate.

  • Provide guidance and instruction to patients to explain any operations being conducted.
  • Communicate with practice personnel and GP’s regarding outcomes and collecting of specimens.
  • Quickly direct patient questions to the nursing team.
  • Inform the nursing team of any modifications or departures from the scheduled care package.

Job responsibilities

1. Provide advice and instruction to patients to explain any operations being conducted.

2. Understand the concepts of data protection and patient confidentiality and the rules and processes around them.

3. Participate in and attend staff meetings.

4. A fundamental awareness of information technology, proficiency with email, and a readiness to participate in training for any systems used to gather and handle patient data.

5. Discuss findings and specimen collection with GPs and clinic personnel.

6. Refer patient queries to the nursing personnel in a timely fashion.

7. Provide empathy and assistance to patients having difficulty coping with their condition.

8. To be supportive and communicative with patients & colleagues.

9. To guarantee that patients receive compassionate and considerate treatment at all times.

10. Inform nursing personnel of any modifications or departures from the scheduled care package.

Qualifications and Training

  • The health care assistant needs to be proficient in both written and spoken English and
  • have an NVQ in health that is at least Level 3 or be ready to work toward

Desirable

  • Admin/clerical training

Experience

  • Experience dealing with the general public
  • Prior experience in a team environment
  • experience working in a medical environment.
